Sailing away.

The blog has moved!

Yes, from WordPress to Blogspot.

The move was because of many restrictions that wordpress was giving on its template customization. It remains as one of the sleekest and easiest to use blog hosts on the web, nonetheless.

My new blog is hosted at the current address:

See you there!

My List of Places To Go; Places you (may) never knew that existed

27 10 2009

First off, just some clarification. I’m not a person who goes to a ‘ulu’ place alone and emo. I’ve stumbled on these places with my great bunch of friends. Alright, here goes.

1) Prawn-fishing @ Jurong Hill

The map below shows the location of The Village @ Jurong Hill, the prawning area is just the space below it. (and above the dark green patch)//

Here, you‘ll need to rent a rod from there.

The rates are:

  • $15 for 1 hour
  • $25 for 2 hours
  • $30 for 3 hours

After your catch, you can actually barbecue them on the spot. Charcoal is provided. The rest you’ll have to bring it yourself.

And did I mention that there’s a cafe/bar too, with screening of soccer channels. Yes, EPL ftw.

2) Yishun Dam

This is a great place to chill out with your friends from the wee hours till the sun rise. The atmosphere is exceptionally peaceful. But you’ll need a car to get in since there are no bus services operating near it. But I do know that there are runners and cyclists who go there.

Even Streetdirectory.com couldn’t pinpoint the exact location lol. Still, click on the widget above to get a better look at the map and obtain the driving directions.

AND if you’re in the area with a car you must definitely check out Sunset Grill & Pub’s spicy Buffalo Wings. Here’s a link to the details of getting there: http://www.hungrygowhere.com/restaurant_details.php?urlname=sunset_grill_pub_seletar&offset=5. Enjoy!

To be continued.

Your Call for Duty.

26 10 2009

With less than 2 weeks till the release of Modern Warfare 2, it’s time to whip out Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from your old games stash.

COD4: Modern Warfare has been a hit. It’s second installation will be a continuation of its predecessor. To avoid any spoilers, I’ll not discuss any of the storyline here. It’s highly recommended that if you play through Modern Warfare before starting on Modern Warfare 2.

It’s slated to hit the shelves on 10 November this year and will be release on namely Windows, X Box 360 and PlayStation 3.

With all the guys that I know going to National Service soon, it’ll help that you play them. It’ll give you a sense of pride and responsibility as a soldier and an insight into various aspects of modern-day warfares. You’ll be more willingly to serve your time. At least for a little while. LOL.

Anyways, here’s a teaser for Modern Warfare 2:

And here’s their official website:

Have fun!

The Dow Live Earth Run for Water – to take place April 18, 2010 – will consist of a series of 6 km run/walks (the average distance many women and children walk every day to secure water) taking place over the course of 24 hours in countries around the world, featuring concerts and water education activities aimed at igniting a tipping point to help solve the water crisis. 1330:
Met up with Ming Tai and Jack at Causeway Point. Was going to Ming Tai’s house to grab some files and also pass him some files. Planned to have a lunch together.

While I was on the train, Ming Tai called.

Ming Tai: Ay, do you mind Seoul Garden?
Me: HUH?  Why Seoul Garden?
Ming Tai: Jack’s hungry and wants to eat buffet.
Me: Okay lor. I don’t mind.

Actually, I wasn’t planning for a heavy lunch. Zzz, Jack and I just exercised the day before and we are putting our effort to waste.

IT WAS CRAZY. At Seoul Garden. We were spamming meat. Heaps and heaps of it. Apparently, Jack is quite the cook.

Jack: Beef, no need to cook too long.
*Picks up the beef*
Jack: WHOO. SHIOK. Medium rare.

Maybe for chicken and beef, he’s a great cook. But for fish, he gave me a semi-cooked one. For the whole meal, I didn’t dare to touch any of the fish.

I wore a white pants so I refused to go get the meat. HAHA. In addition, I took Jack’s bag and shielded my pants. Refusing to bulge to avoid staining my pants.

It reminds me how long I’ve not been to Seoul Garden. It has employed a suction system to reduce the smoke from grilling at the side. It’s pretty good. Although we still have stench on our clothes, it was much better than it used to be.

After much struggle, (I was called weak by them) we finally got to the dessert. I went for the normal flavours. Ming Tai made himself a Seoul Garden Earthquake. Jack made a wierd raisin-sprinkled ice-cream and complained that the ice-creams didn’t taste their flavours. LOL.

1500:

Ming Tai’s house. Did a lot of files exchange. The highlight was probably Resident Evil 5. Amazingly, the game worked on his computer but his mouse sucked with an impaired right-click lol.

Yes, by the way, to RE5 gamers, there’s a way to tweak your game to be processed faster. Open up window’s search and type CAPCOM. CAPCOM>RESIDENT EVIL 5>config.ini, open it in WordPad and change the JobThread=1 to JobThread=2. For quad cores, JobThread=4. Instead of using only the original 1 segment of your processor, it is forced to fully ultilise all. Cheers.

1940:

Went to Alvin’s house.

Da jiu planted some really interesting plants along the corridor. He had cotton plant and yes, we harvested real cotton from the plant. There’s also custard apple plant, cute little (really little) apples hanging on the plant.

Played Fifa ’09 on his PS3 slim, on a 42″ Sony Bravia. It rocks. We had a lot of funny moments in the game.

Winning Eleven used to be better than Fifa. But with the recent advance in Fifa’s gameplay, it has surpassed than of the Winning Eleven. The tricks function was amazing and added a lot of soccer elements to the experience.

Weijie came at a later time and refused to play Fifa ‘ 09. We switched to Street Fighter 4. HAHA, I got owned. Alvin’s got this nice arcade button pad, it totally feels like the arcade’s. Played till 2245 before I went home.

Gymming tommorrow with Jack at EnergyOne.

9.00: Removed stitches at NDC @ Outram.

It was really fast. All they used were pick and a cutter. Within 5 minutes, the dentist snipped both my upper and lower gum stitches.

The day before, my dad joked about removing the stitch for me (saying that it was really easy). OKAY. I can see it’s simple. BUT HELL NO. I’m not going to let you remove the stitches for me.

Made another appointment for wisdom tooth extraction for the right side. Tuesday 10, November 2009. Ouch.

1320: Had a driving lesson.

It’s my second driving lesson. (My last was a week ago) Sheesh, civilian cars are really different. The vibration from half-clutching is really subtle as compared to military vehicles. In addition, the accelerator need not be flushed unlike military vehicles.

Here’s the report card:
1) Had no problems driving on the roads.
2) Clutching needs to be worked on cause’ you’re moving off too slow.

Zzz. I really need to kick the habit developed from driving military vehicles.

By the way, guys try out this game: Resident Evil 5.

The system requirements for this game is quite high.  So before you go get this game, go to  http://www.systemrequirementlab.com/ and check  if your computer specs are compatible.

I’ve just started on this game and I’m having hell lots of fun. The controls may seem awkward at first, (First Person Shooting like Left4Dead, yet not exactly) but it gets better.

If anyone of you do play this, we can play the co-operation mode so we can screw each other up. Have fun!

16 10 2009

Went watching Pandorum with Daryl, Ming Tai and Jack at Bugis iluma. I arrived a little later than them and they were waiting for me to get the tickets. Apparently, the service counter didn’t allow them to buy the tickets because they want to see all of our ID documents. (2 Green Ones [Ming Tai & Daryl], 1 Soon-to-be Pink [ME :D ] and 1 Still-Pink-BUT-Going-Green [Jack], LOL)

Show starts at 3.20pm but we arrived early to have lunch together. We ended up at Sim Lim Square’s foodcourt at the basement. My chicken chop spaghetti wasn’t particularly nice but still okay. Hao Jian was the best! (Courtesy of Ming Tai)

After deeming that we still have some time, Jack decided to find a shop to remove the top two screw on his PSP so that he could break the PSP open for cleaning. The screws are of a special kind, according to Ming Tai and Jack. So it is justified to find ‘professional’ services for this purpose – $2 for removing 2 tiny little screws. LOL. YHBR. (You Have Been Ripped)

Back to the movie! *No spoilers* It’s a pretty good show. It’s not a horror show, it’s more like a sci-fi show but it managed to frighten me and most apparently, Jack. I was sharing a large popcorn combo with him, he confessed that during scenes with scary leads i.e. music gets tense, he’ll let me hold the popcorn. He’s afraid he might jump and spill the popcorn. LOL.

Unleashed. Unleashed was his desire. Jack’s desires. His inner geek desired a new HDD, iPhone armband and a brand new Razor new mouse. We scrimped through shops and shops to find the best deals.

His desire for a HDD was fulfilled first. Lust for a mouse was satisfied by a brand new blue Lachesis. But the hardest part was the armband. They were all expensive. Because they were made for Apple. Apple was the ultimate enemy of cheapo geeks but ironically, an enemy that must be used. Geeky Jacky had no choice. Or so he thought.

But soon the tide of the battle was changed. A hero from the light, Li Ren, offered him enlightenment. Finally, Geeky Jacky settle in for a armband big enough to hold his iPhone but less than half the price of the ones before. =D Geeky Jacky was happy but heroic Li Ren had to rush off to Sentosa.

I walked from SLS to Little India’s MRT station. It wasn’t far, it’s a 7 minutes walk. Took the MRT to Habourfront to meet Li Wei and Sandy. Then, through the monorail, we went to Beach Station where we took the tram to Coasta Sands Resort.

Meet up with Wei Jie and Elena to celebrate their 21st birthdays. HAPPY BIRTHDAYS! Had a great chat with my relatives who were there – Alvin, Angela and her boyfriend, Ah Girl Ee and Xiao Ee Zhang, Er Ee and Er Ee Zhang. Er Ee Zhang told me of a nice place in Singapore (where the SAF Yacht Club is based at), it’s a jetty with a nice view and atmosphere. Hell, I sure wanna see that place =D, he said maybe we’ll all go someday.

The birthday cakes were from Secret Recipe –  Banana Choco and Strawberry Choco. We took turn at taking photo with the two birthday stars. After that, we sang a birthday song for the both of them. CUT CAKES! I ate a piece from Strawberry Choco, it’s really nice but a tad too sweet for my liking.

Ah Girl Ee and Ee Zhang drove us (Li Wei, Sandy and Alvin + Me) out to Vivo so that we could take the MRT home.

Alvin’s got a new PS3 Slim and got himself titles like Fifa 10. He even pimped it up with a 40″ Sony Bravia TV! Xiao Ee Zhang is going over tomorrow to battle it out with him. I foresee a Liverpool VS. Man Utd match. MAN UTD FTW. By the way, sorry Alvin! I won’t be able to go tomorrow, prawn fishing tomorrow!
